Some Brothers have queried Mufti Ebrahim Desai’s ‘One Humanity’ project.  Please comment on this project in the light of the Shariah. Something does not seem right in this project. Is his project fully in line with the Shariah?

Any unbiased Muslim whose thinking is not blemished with an inferiority complex can understand that there is something amiss in the ‘one humanity’ concept promoted by Mufti Ebrahim Desai. Rendering assistance to all people in distress is permissible and laudable. There is no objection to this facet of the project. However, from the Islamic perspective, the bootlicking attitude displayed by the founders of this project is reprehensible.

Aid rendered to even non-Muslims is for Allah’s Pleasure, not for the sake of bootlicking the authorities or to make a stupid worldly name for oneself. Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) did say: “Give Sadqah to people of all religions.” When a person is in distress, or in need, then for aiding him/her, his/her religion of kufr will not inhibit the Muslim from assisting. Thus, there is no objection in this aspect of the ‘One Humanity’ project.

However, there is strong Islamic objection to the name ‘One Humanity’ and the baatil concept propounded by the Mufti Sahib on the basis of the Qur’aanic aayat and the Hadith. To provide a Shar’i basis for his baseless ‘one humanity’ concept, Mufti Ebrahim Desai presents half an aayat. He tears the half aayat from its context in the attempt to bolster his erroneous concept.  Citing half of the aayat, he mentions: “Your creed is indeed one creed”.

The purpose for preferring this piecemeal aayat is to create the impression that all creeds (religions) are one ‘Deen’. But this is palpably kufr. Even if this is not the actual intention of the Mufti, he is trading this corrupt idea of kufr in the attempt to woo the authorities with his truckling attitude. It is a bootlicking exercise which is despicable from the Islamic point of view.

The full Aayat, No.92 of Surah Ambiya, is:

“Verily, this is your Deen which is one Deen, and I am your Rabb, therefore worship Me.”

The Deen (Creed) mentioned in this Aayat refers to only Islam. This Aayat is the conclusion of the preceding discussion. The meaning is that the Deen of the previous Ambiya (Alayhimus Salaam) and the Deen of Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) is the same Deen despite the minor differences. But Mufti Ebrahim has laboured to portray the idea to the non-Muslim authorities that this Qur’aanic verse brings all religions within its scope thus equating all ideologies on to the same level. It is the self-same theme of the kuffaar interfaith movement which Mufti Ebrahim is echoing or regurgitating in his ‘one humanity’ concept.

The very next Aayat (No.93) debunks the baseless idea Mufti Ebrahim has attempted to promote. The Aayat states:

“They (the kuffaar) caused divisions in their affairs amongst them. All shall have to return to Us (and account for their deviation).”

This Aayat dispels the ‘one humanity’ notion. Furthermore, the Qur’aan Majeed states explicitly:

“He (Allah) has created you. Thus, from among you are kaafir, and among you are Mu’min.”    (At-Taghaabun, Aayat 2)

The split of humanity into two distinctive groups – kaafir and Mu’min – is not a hidden factor nor is it any conundrum nor should Muslims apologize for it. The Qur’aan Majeed further says:

“If Allah had willed, He would have made you a single Ummah, but (He did not do so) in order to put you to trial regarding His bestowals....”   Al-Maa-idah, Aayat 48)

“If your Rabb had desired, He would most certainly have made humanity one Ummah, then they would not have differed (amongst themselves).”      (Hood, Aayat 118)

“If Allah had willed, He would have made you one Ummah, but He leads astray whomever He wills, and He guides whomever He wills. (An-Nahl, Aayat 93)

“If Allah had desired He would have made you one Ummah, but He admits to His Mercy whomever He wills (thus guiding them, and excluding others for whom perdition has been destined).”   (As-Shuraa, Aayat 8)

It should be abundantly clear from these Aayaat that Allah Ta’ala in His infinite wisdom has not decreed a single creed for entire mankind as Mufti Ebrahim’s baseless concept posits or seeks to convey. The following Aayat confirms with the greatest clarity the spuriousness of the ‘one humanity’ concept:

“If it was not for the fact that all mankind would become one/ummah (creed/humanity), We would have made silver roofs and staircases on which they could climb in the homes of those who disbelieve in Ar-Rahmaan. “  (Az-Zukhruf, Aayat 33)

If there was no poverty among the kuffaar, and if all of them had mansions of gold and silver, all mankind would have become ‘one humanity’ as suggested by Mufti Ebrahim Desai. All would have united in kufr, and there would have been no Mu’mineen. The Qur’aan Majeed makes this categoric assertion. But, Allah’s Wisdom demanded that all mankind should not be united in one creed. He knows why. We do not.

We reiterate that there is no aversion for aiding non-Muslims, but there is a great aversion for bootlicking and for dragging the Qur’aan and Hadith into a muddle to bolster a baatil concept propounded to obsequiously curry favour with the authorities. This attempt to beg for Izzat (honour/respect) and Aafiyat (safety) from them is abhorrent and smacks of shirk. This is the attitude of the munaafiqeen, hence the Qur’aan Majeed states:

“Give the munaafiqeen the tidings of a painful chastisement for them. They are those who take the kaafireen as friends besides the Mu’mineen. What! Do they search for izzat by them? (Know) that verily all Izzat is for Allah.”      (An-Nisaa,128 and 129)

“Whoever desires honour (should know) that  all Izzat is for Allah.”

(Faatir, Aayat 10)

Respect and safety are not obtainable by means of bootlicking anyone. These are favours of Allah Ta’ala, and are acquirable only by obedience and by following the Sunnah. Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Whatever is by Allah, is obtainable only by means of obedience.” Pursuing shadows and mirages will never benefit Muslims. Izzat and Aafiyat are granted by only Allah Ta’ala. The hearts of the rulers are in Allah’s control. Whatever calamity will befall us or whatever goodness will come our way is by Allah’s decree, not by bootlicking phantoms.

Shamelessly displaying a bootlicking attitude, the Mufti Sahib says: “ serve mankind without discriminating in colour, race or religion .....irrespective of race, gender or religion”. This is the language and clichés of the kuffaar politicians. It echoes the spirit of the godless kufr constitution. What need did the Mufti perceive to demean himself and his Deen by casting himself into the kuffaar mould? Is he then so unaware of the discriminatory decrees of Allah Azza Wa Jal?

Does the Mufti not know that the kuffaar concepts of gender and religious equality are kufr? It is repugnant for a Mufti to truckle at the boots of the phantoms whom he has set out to woo. There is no need to express oneself in the language of the kuffaar politicians for rendering assistance to people.

In the realm of souls, Allah Ta’ala had decreed: “This group for Jannat and that group for Jahannam”. The Mufti Sahib is well aware or should be aware of this fact which debunks his ‘one humanity’ bootlicking concept. The Qur’aan states with clarity the inequality of the genders. It further, repeatedly states the eternal perdition for the kuffaar. So what precisely has induced the Mufti Sahib to couch his postulate of aiding humanity in such terms from which percolate kufr?

Regardless of providing aid to humanity, as long as Muslims do not reform themselves and submit to the Deen, no amount of money spent and no amount of bootlicking will save them from the Athaab of Allah Azza Wa Jal. Such Athaab will come and take its decreed course, and no one will be able to prevent the horrors which are yet to unfold. The vile and immoral conduct of the Muslim masses is the surest barometer for this prediction.

Instead of Amr Bil Ma’roof Nahyi Anil Munkar and Inaabat Ilallaah, the molvis and muftis of this era are stupidly and disgracefully bootlicking the shadows. Allah Ta’ala has been expelled from the hearts. When the hearts are bereft of fear for Allah Ta’ala, then the vacuum is filled with fear for the shadows.
