BOGUS QUR’BAANI VENDORS
A BROTHER WRITES:
“I HAVE A SERIOUS CONCERN ABOUT MANY OF THE ORGANIZATIONS TAKING R100 FOR A QUR’BAANI SHARE ON A SHEEP AND SOME TAKE R800 FOR 7 SHARES IN A COW TO HAVE THEIR QUR’BAANI DONE IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES. I HAVE TRAVELLED ACROSS INDIA AND PAKISTAN AND THE COST IS NO WHERE THE EQUIVALENT OF R100 (I.E. 600 RUPEES) FOR A SHEEP. COWS ARE RARELY, IF AT ALL, SACRIFICED IN INDIA. PLEASE EXPOSE THESE FRAUDULENT ORGANIZATIONS. THE STUPID AND GULLIBLE MUSIM PUBLIC DOES NOT EVEN UTILIZE THEIR INTELLIGENCE. IN SO DOING THEY ARE SUPPORTING THESE SCAMS.” (End of the brother’s letter)
Every year, Qur’baani time, there mushrooms a glut of ‘Qur’baani’ vendors, especially in the Transvaal (Gauteng, etc.) and Natal provinces. Ridiculously low prices are quoted for Qur’baani animals.
Most of these unknown vendors are frauds who capitalize on the gullibility and ignorance of the public. Muslims who support these frauds are also blameworthy. In order to soothe their conscience that they are discharging their Qur’baani obligation, they allow themselves to be hoodwinked by these crooks. The low prices are attractive bait for those who lack understanding of the meaning of Qur’baani. They shop around for the lowest price and regardless of who the fraud may be, as long as the price is a pittance, they support the scoundrels and believe that their obligation is discharged. It is not permissible to entrust this important ibaadat of Qur’baani to unknown characters. Nowhere is a sheep available for R100 nor a cow for R800.
If you do not know the person with whom you are dealing, never entrust him with your Qur’baani obligation. In particular, there is one scoundrel who is from Mozambique. He issues very expensive glossy brochures highlighting his ‘relief’ activities in Mozambique and elsewhere whilst in reality he steals all the money contributed for Qur’baani. He leads a life of luxury - mansions and sports cars – all acquired with the stolen ‘Qur’baani’ monies contributed by the gullible Muslim public.
If you are serious to discharge your Qur’baani obligation, deal with bonafide Muslim organizations, not with fly by night bodies and unknown scoundrels who plunder the community in the name of the Deen.
