A Brother querying a fatwa issued by Ebrahim Desai on the issue of becoming a vegetarian, writes:

“ Assalaamualaikum, I have come across a very shallow and strange fatwa from Mufti Ebrahim desai. He says that it is permissible to be a vegetarian (link has been provided). It seems he doesn't understand the meaning of being vegetarian and its implications.

Vegetarians believe that it is impermissible to kill animals and thus refuse to eat meat. Instead of understanding the underlying ideology, he talks about how it is permissible to refrain from meat and not compulsory to eat meat.  Isn't it compulsory to break the ideology?

How did this mufti ever qualify under Mufti GANGOHI RAHMATULLAHI ALAIH?

is it permissible to be a vegetarian?

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

It is permissible to be a vegetarian. Shariah has not made eating meat compulsory.

Mufti Ebrahim Desai.” (End of letter)

The fatwa is grossly erroneous. This ‘mufti’ incrementally veering from the Haqq has joined the liberal cult of the deviates, hence  the  baatil liberalism  is conspicuous in his  stupid  zigzag ‘fatwas’

While consuming meat is not compulsory, it is haraam to become a vegetarian for no valid health reason. Eating camel meat is not compulsory. However, when Hadhrat Abdullah Ibn Salaam (Radhiyallahu anhu) who was among the Ulama of Bani Israaeel and others had embraced Islam, they sought to abstain from consuming camel meat because it was prohibited in the Tauraah. They laboured under the impression that since camel’s meat was not compulsory, they could legitimately abstain from consuming it.

In castigation and rejection of this idea, the following Aayat was revealed:

“O People of Imnaan! Enter into Islam totally, and do not follow in the footsteps of shaitaan. Verily, he is your open enemy.”

(Al-Baqarah, Aayat 208)

The idea of abstaining from camel’s meat on the basis of it not being compulsory, is a shaitaani deception according to this Aayat of the Qur’aan. Similarly, becoming a vegetarian in deference to some stupid kuffaar ideology whether it is Hinduism or the deception of being merciful to animals, displays a tendency of kufr which in terms of the Qur’aan Majeed is following in the footsteps of shaitaan.

This is precisely what the zig zag mufti Ebrahim Desai is involved in. His fatwas are now designed for appeasement.  The Deen is no longer his objective. The modernists, liberals, zanaadaqah, and especially the bankers and financiers have to be appeased. Whereas a Mufti’s prior concern should be strengthening the bond between the Muslim and Allah Ta’ala, this maajin mufti does the exact opposite.

We seek refuge with Allah Ta’ala from the evils of our nafs and the snares of shaitaan. No person knows what the morrow holds for him. A Buzrug can suddenly flip, sommersault and ruin his everlasting life of Salvation  of the Aakhirah.

When an Aalim slips and flips, it is exceedingly fearful. Imaan is suspended between fear and hope. May Allah Ta’ala keep our Imaan intact until the very last breath of this earthly life.
