QUESTION: Molvi Ebrahim Salejee of Isipingo Madrasah has organized a ladies programme at Musjid Nur ul Huda. Please comment on this programme. Is it Permissible? Why such double standards by the Ulama?

ANSWER: Adequately answering his own valid question, the Brother states:

Assalmau alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatu

Muhtaram Moulana Saab

Attached is a program invitation sent to me this evening.

The program is of Molvi Ebrahim Salejee inviting women to attend his program/ majlis.

It is ironic,  hypocritical that Molvi Ebrahim Salejee as well as whom he follows and consults with, Darul Uloom Deoband of India who state that women are not allowed to go in the path of Almighty Allah in Tableegh. Yet it is ok for them to attend such programs and Majlis of his that he invites to.

When women have been ordered to remain in their homes and are not allowed to even visit the qabrestaan which reminds one of the next world, how can such Ulema at one time state that women should remain in their homes and are forbidden from going in Tableegh. Yet at other times invite to their own programs.

As the duty of every Muslim to prevent evil, to proclaim the truth, to not hide or distort the truth and to warn other Muslims of actions which take one closer to jahannum, is it not the duty of a Muslim and Muhtaram Moulana Saab to warn Muslims that it is not permissible / haraam to attend such events?

As this program is still to take place tomorrow there is still time and our duty to warn others of the sins of attending such a program.

if it is not a sin, then Muhtaram Moulana Saab may kindly explain the reasons to this sinner that it is permissible for women to attend these programs and the reasons why it is not permissible for women to go in Tableegh.

As Uleme e haq are becoming lesser and lesser with each passing day, with nearly all of the Ulema remaining silent when their colleagues are misleading the Ummat, may Almighty Allah TaAlla help the Ummat in these dire times and place upon us and from our progeny Ulema e haq and true leaders who will uphold the Deen of Almighty Allah. Who will help the Ummat to be saved from the fire of hell and assist the Ummat in entering jannatul firdaus without reckoning.

(End of the Brother’s letter)

Whatever the Brother has stated is the Haqq. The reason for the delay in issuing our comment, is the deluge of correspondence which overwhelms us. The extent of the inundation of incoming e-mails daily does not enable us to sometimes deal with even urgent manners immediately. A number of urgent issues is generally in front of us. We have to select what has greater urgency, hence this belated Comment and publication.

It is not a question of double standards. In Islam there are many valid standards. All people and all things cannot be handled and resolved by means of one standard. But the issue under discussion is not a matter of ‘standards’. The ladies programme organized by the Molvi is the effect of nafsaaniyat. It is shaitaan’s snare in which these molvis who are obsessed with the ladies are entrapped.

Only once in the noble life of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) did he have an unostentatious bayaan for women at a private house on the specific request of the Sahaabiyyaat. And that too was at the time when it was still permissible for women to attend the Musjid. But despite the permissibility to attend the Musjid, Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) did not call the ladies to the Musjid for a bayaan or a programme as it is termed in today’s nafsaani slang.

Dwelling in the disease of self-deception, the Molvi has not yet managed to muster the courage to call the women directly into the Musjid although there rationally remains no valid reason for calling them to the hall and not to the Musjid which is a venue of profound holiness. But, the time will soon arrive when the Molvis who are supposed to be of the ‘orthodox’ type will denude themselves of their masks of deception and join the modernist cavalcade by calling women openly and flagrantly to the Musjid for Salaat and all the other nfsaani programmes they organize in the name of the Deen. In fact, the trustees of the Musjid in Mackenzie Park, Benoni have thrown the doors of the Musjid wide open for women to come to even a party organized at the Musjid. Another Musjid in Evans Park has organized a shaitaani ‘open day’ for even kuffaar men and women. The Musjid in Roshnee has regular tours at the Musjid by faajraat kuffaar. And all of this is organized by so-called Deobandi molvis. They are all agents of iblees.

The programme which the Molvi from Isipingo Madrasah had organized for the women is haraam. He has acted in blatant conflict with the Qur’aan and Sunnah. Shaitaan has fitted them with blinkers and has convinced them that shaitaaniyat is the Deen. May Allah Ta’ala save the Ummah from the depredations of the Ulama-e-Soo’ whose preponderance in this age has darkened the surface of the earth.

The Molvis of today are either ignorant of the Ahkaam or have adopted deliberate blindness to override the Shariah. The following Hadith narrations should have an salubrious effect on those who have some respect for the Deen and who are concerned with the Accountability on the Day of Qiyaamah.

1) “Abu Barazah (Radhiyallahu anhu) came (home) and did not find his Umm-e-Walad in the house. They (the inmates in the house) said that she has gone to the Musjid. When she came, he (furiously) screamed at her and exclaimed: “Verily, Allah has prohibited women from emerging (from the home). He has commanded them to remain firmly inside the house, and that they should not follow a janaazah, and that they should not go to the Musjid, and that they should not go for Jumuah.”

2) “Ibn Mas’ood (Radhiyallahu anhu) narrating from Nabi (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Verily, woman is Aurah (to be concealed). When she emerges from her home shaitaan casts surreptitious glances at her – he waits in ambush), and he says to her: ‘Verily, you will not pass by anyone (any male) except that he will lust for you.”

3) “Umar (Radhiyallahu anhu) narrated: “Verily, when a woman has garments in abundance and she loves adornment, then she will love khurooj (emergence from the home to prowl around in the public domain).”

(4) Anas (Radhiyallahu anhu) narrated: “The women came to Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and said: ‘O Rasulullah! Men have taken precedence (over us) with virtue and Jihad in the Path of Allah. Therefore, what deed is there for us by means of which we can gain the virtue of the Mujaahideen in the Path of Allah?’ Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Whoever among you remains seated inside her home, will gain the virtue of the Mujaahideen in the Path of Allah.”

There is an imperative need for these Molvis to ponder and reflect on these Ahaadith and the Ahkaam of the Shariah. Only then will they understand their entrapment in the snare of shaitaan.
