BID’AH THIKR MAJLIS HAVE BECOME THE NORM
THE BID’ATI FELONS ARE DEVIATES MASQUERADING AS DEOBANDIS
Question
Thikr gatherings are on the rise. Ulama who are Deobandis are increasingly organizing thikr majlis. Is there any Sunnah basis for these forms of congregational thikr which were unheard of in the earlier eras of Islam. Please comment on the following thikr majlis advert.

ANSWER
The Akaabir Ulama of Darul Uloom Deoband were always in the forefront in the Jihad against the Bid’atis, notably the Barelwi Qabar Pujaari Bid’atis, as well against the British savages who had occupied the Indian sub-continent. However, Deoband has now become antique, relegated to the museum. All the genuine, noble Akaabir of that, august Headquarters of Islam, are in their graves. They who were the bastions of the Deen have disappeared from this planet. They come within the purview of the Hadith:
“The Sulaha will depart (from this world) one after the other
(in quick succession). Then will remain the HUFAALAH (chaff, flotsam, jetsam and rubbish) like the chaff of dates or barley. All will have no care whatsoever for them.”
The innovators of our day are the hufaalah mentioned by Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam). They seek the limelight. Goaded on by their nafsaani objectives, they are desperate in their efforts to create a following from the awaamun naas (the laity). Shaitaan has inspired the molvis and hadhrats of today to trap and rope in the ignorant and unwary with merrymaking stunts – all executed in the name of the Deen. One such new bid’ah sayyiah (evil bid’ah) is the thikr majlis merrymaking programme.
For according ‘viability’, that is, public acceptability, to the bid’ah thikr majlis, a merrymaking, gluttonous feast also accompanies the singing and swaying. The molvis and hadhrats today lack the ability of correct utilization and application of the Aql bestowed to them by Allah Ta’ala, hence they misuse and abuse their Ilm to fabricate bid’ah practices which have absolutely no origin, no support and no basis in the Sunnah. These innovated practices of thikr are severely proscribed by the Shariah.
Once the senior Sahaabi, Hadhrat Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud (Radhiyallahu anhu) was called to the Musjid to witness a small group of men engaging in a new form of thikr majlis. The group was sitting in a circle, and doing nothing other than engaging in the thikr of Laailaha il lallaah, Subhaanallah and Allaahu Akbar. Vociferously branding them as bid’atis, Hadhrat Ibn Mas’ud (Radhiyallahu anhu) ordered the expulsion of the group from the Musjid. Thus was the group physically evicted from the Musjid.
But today, the thikr majlis is not even as simple as was the one which had secured the expulsion of the perpetrators. Today’s thikr majlis is a stunt to which the public is invited. After the thikr, these misguided souls will indulge in a round of gluttony – a feast which will be accompanied by merrymaking laughter, indulgence in nonsense and futility in diametric conflict of the demands and effects of Thikrulllah. They are now outclassing and surpassing even the Barelwi Qabar Pujaaris in the art of fabricated practices in the name of the Deen. While the Barelwis are stagnant in their centuries-old meelaad, urs and qabar puja bid’ah, the new brand of so-called ‘deobandis’ are incrementally forging and frauding new acts of bid’ah.
The effects of genuine Thikr is diversion of the mind and heart from the dunya. Thikr creates disdain for company. Thikr endears solitude and generates incremental inclination towards the Aakhirat. But these merrymaking, hollow thikr programmes of today’s molvis and hadhrats have the opposite effect.
Understand well, that any practice presented as ‘ibaadat’, which has no origin in the Khairul Quroon era, is not ibaadat. It is bid’ah which is not permissible. It invites athaab. Since the fabricators of these thikr programmes lack valid Aql, they miserably fail to understand their folly and notoriety, hence they come within the scope of the Hadith:
“Allah deprives every bid’ati from making taubah.”
Genuine Thikr generates Tawaadhu’ (Humility). But these ostentatious hadhrats are saturated with takabbur, hence they take offence for naseehat proffered. The induracy of their Aql prevents them from valid reflection and contemplation, hence they miserably fail to recognize their dastardly errors of excrescence fabricated in the name of the Deen.
The hearts of these hadhrats have become so desensitized that they fail to understand the waste of their gluttony even in this time when 2 million Muslims in Palestine are perishing due to starvation. Here the hadhrats and their followers eat and excrete in the name of the Deen while an entire populace of 2 million in Palestine cannot find stale bread to eat nor water to drink. What kind of Muslims are these who indulge in merrymaking thikr programmes when Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) had said:
“The Muslimoon are like one man. If the eye pains, the whole body is affected. If the head pains, the whole body is affected.”
But these so-called ‘thaakireen’ are lost and confounded in their merrymaking and destructive futility. They have no care for the suffering masses of the Ummah. That is why they have the temerity to indulge in merrymaking in the name of thikr at this time when the Ummah is ablaze in a conflagration of heart-rending misery. What kind of thikr programme is this which rewards the bogus ‘thaakireen’ with a merrymaking feast of gluttony?
These so-called ‘deobandi’ hadhrats have descended into new depths of ignominy by adding feasting to their thikr programs. Even minus the feasting, the programme itself is bid’ah. Thikrullah is private ibaadat. It is not for advertising and show.
There is absolutely no support for this thikr programme which has been fabricated and innovated in conflict with the Sunnah and the Shariah. It is a function devoid of Shar’i merit. It is a misuse of Ilm. It is an abuse of ‘seniority’. The shaikhul hadith has indeed rendered a great disservice to Islam and the Ummah with his bid’ah thikr programme.
