THE EARTHQUAKE IS IT A PUNISHMENT FROM ALLAH AZZA WAJAL?

IS THE EARTHQUAKE IN TURKEY-SYRIA A PUNISHMENT?
ANSWER
Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:
“When Amaanat is destroyed, then await the Hour (of Qiyaamah)” Someone asked: ‘How will Amaanat be destroyed?’ Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “When affairs (of trust and importance) will be entrusted to those who are unfit. Then, await the Hour.”
“When Ilm (of the Deen) is taught for purposes other than the Deen; when a man obeys his wife; when a man is insolent to his mother; when he draws his friend close to him and distances himself from his father; when voices are raised in the Musaajid, and when a community appoints its scoundrel to be the leader (ruler, etc.), then at such a time expect Red Winds (hurricanes and the like), EARTHQUAKES, swallowing by the earth (of people and buildings), disfigurement (of faces- faces becoming like apes and pigs), and (showers of) stone.”
Hadhrat Umar (Radhiyallahu anhu) said:
“Verily, the EARTHQUAKE is the consequence of rampant zina, and droughts are due to evil judiciaries and tyrannical rulers.”
According to the Hadith, there are also other causes for droughts, etc.
Ibn Marwaan (Radhiyallahu anha) narrated: “During the time of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam), there was an earth tremor. Then he (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) placed his hand on the ground and said: ‘Become stationery!’
Then (addressing the Sahaabah he said: “O People! Indeed your Rabb is reprimanding you, therefore heed the warning.”
Then during the time of Umar bin Khattaab (Radhiyallahu anhu), there was a tremor. He said (to the people): ‘O People! The only reason for this earthquake is over something you have committed (i.e. sins). I take oath by The Being in Whose control is my life! If it happens again, I shall never live with you.”
While earthquakes are undoubtedly the Athaab of Allah Azza Wa Jal, it becomes a blessing for true and pious Muslims who are killed. They attain the status of the Shuhada. But the primary reason for earthquakes is the sin and transgression of the vast majority who has exceeded all limits without the slightest vestige of remorse. They have no intention of repentance. In fact, they have obliterated their Imaan, not only with the commission of sin, but believing that their vile deeds and beliefs of kufr are valid and acceptable.
When fisq, fujoor and kufr of the population reach the explosive degree, then the Wrath of Allah Azza is unleashed. Warning us, the Qur’aan Majeed says:
“We shall most assuredly give them to taste of the lesser Athaab, not the Greater Athaab, Perhaps they will return (to the Path of Rectitude).”
When they fail to heed the Lesser Athaab in the form of bearable difficulties and hardships, then the decree of the Greater Athaab becomes justified. And that is what we are witnessing currently in Turkey and Syria.
