NATAL MEMOM JAMAAT
IT IS HARAAM TO CONTRIBUTE FUNDS TO THEM
THEIR EMBLEM IS FISQ, FUJOOR AND KUFR WHICH ELIMINATES IMAAN
QUESTION
Recently I donated my Zakaat to the NMJ, Natal MemonJamaat. Natal MemonJamaat collects Zakaat and lillah, and does work across the spectrum for humanity as well as upliftment. I have now learnt that the President of this organisation who so passionately campaigns for Zakaat and lillah collections, is hosting a musical evening, for men and ladies in a mixed setting, together with dancing in May. The function will be held at a Haraam hotel in Durban and one show in Johannesburg. They want to donate a small percentage to Turkey. The show is not in aid of Turkey but a voluntary donation will be accepted. Won’t this make all funds collected by NMJ tainted.
After learning this, I would like to know, if my Zakaat is valid as it will be mixed with this Haraam money. Do I have to re-discharge it as the leader of this organisation is promoting Haraam?
ANSWER
It is not permissible to contribute any type of money to this NMJ, not even haraam interest. Despite its charitable work, it indulges in blatant haraam to such a degree which eliminates the Imaan of these people. Allah Ta’ala does not need such charity which is soiled with fisq, fujoor and kufr. A mixture of urine and rose water is never pure and is never acceptable.
If at the time when you gave your Zakaat to the NMJ you were aware of their villainy, fisq, fujoor and kufr, then your Zakaat is not discharged. You have to pay again. However, if you were not aware and had given your Zakaat in good faith, then despite the wrongful use by the villains of NMJ, your obligation has been discharged. But in future never contribute funds to this body. Those who have organized the music, dancing and mixed gatherings are no longer Muslims. They have obliterated their Imaan for regarding haraam to be halaal.
