THE CREATION OF HADHRAT HAWWAA (ALAYHAS SALAAM)
QUESTION
Regarding the creation of Hadhrat Hawa (Alayhas Salaam), Allamah Mufti Saeed Palanpuri (Rahmatullah Alayh) says that the origin of her being created from the rib of Hadhrat Aadam (Alayhis Salaam) entered the Tafaseer from biblical literature. Others who have substantiated the view from a narration in Bukhari Shareef are mistaken as it is regarding the temperament/nature of women (it does not in itself give the meaning of being created from a rib).
Therefore, is it correct to say that she was also created from soil? (like Hadhrat Aadam (Alayhis Salaam)).
ANSWER
The venerable Allamah Mufti Saeed Palanpuri (Rahmatullah alayh) had committed a glaring blunder. The view he had proffered is devoid of Shar’i substance. Even reliable Ulama of lofty Ilmi status sometimes meander into gaffes and blunders which are appalling and utterly baseless.
The view stated by the honourable Mufti Sahib (Rahmatullah alayh) is in diametric conflict with the unanimous view of the Ummah from the very inception of Islam. This unanimity is more than adequate to debunk the corrupt view which the Mufti Sahib had propounded.
How can it ever be correct to infer that Hadhrat Hawwaa (Alayhas salaam) was also created from soil when:
(1) There is absolutely no Nass for this claim, and
(2) It is in glaringly in conflict and denial of the view explicitly stated in the Qur’aan, Hadith and the Ijma’ of the Authorities of Islam?
A logical possibility in matters of Shariah import has no validity when there is Nass to contradict it. The Mu’tazilis who were corrupt rationalists, held the belief which Hadhrat Palanpuri propagated. Since they lacked Shar’i evidence for their view, they sought to bolster their figment of imagination with flaccid apodalic logic. Their corrupt logic being the effect of cognitive dissonance which is generally the consequence of attributing unbridled operation to the created brain with its finite scope of comprehension, set them on the course of collision with the Aqaaid of Islam which are the product of revelation (Wahi), not reason (Aql).
The conflict of Aql with such Nass substantiated by Wahi is in reality intellectual paroxysmal.
Due to this intellectual disease, the Mu’tazilis argued that Allah Ta’ala is Qaadir. When He had the power to create Aadam (Alayhis salaam) from soil, then He also had the power to create Hawwaa (Alayhas salaam) from soil. Thus, when this is a reality, then what is the benefit for creating her from one of the ribs of Aadam (Alayhis salaam)? This in brief is the corrupt argument of the Mu’taziliz.
But the issue in the context is not the denial of the Qudrat of Allah Azza Wa Jal. The issue is the creation of Hawwaa (Alayhis salaam) from the Rib of Aadam (Alayhis salaam) as categorically stated in the Nusoos.
Every person of even meagre intelligence, whose Aql has not degenerated into dementia will understand the absolute incongruity of this ‘rational’, flapdoodle ‘daleel’ of the Mu’tazilis for their unsubstantiated view of Hadhrat Hawwaa (Alayhis salaam) having been created from soil.
Yes, Allah Ta’ala is Qaadir (All-Powerful). It was totally within the ambit of His Qudrat to have created Hadhrat Aadam (Alayhis salaam) by a mere word of “Kun!” as He had created innumerable species of His Makhlooq. Even the powerful and glorious Malaaikah were created by the term, “Kun!” (i.e. “Be!).
“Verily, His Command, when He wills anything, is to only say for it: “Be!”, and it comes into existence.”
(Yaaseen, Aayat 82)
Of what benefit was it to have created Aadam (Alayhis salaam) from soil in a long drawn out process of manufacturing in which many Malaaikah, including the Four highest ranking Angels, participated, when Allah Ta’ala had the qudrat to say just “Kun!” to bring Hadhrat Aadam (Alayhis salaam) into existence? That is the Will of Allah Ta’ala subject to His Wisdom which no one has the right to question and probe. Thus it is utterly senseless and stupid to infer from the creation of Aadam (Alayhis salaam) that Hawwaa (Alayhas salaam) was also created from soil.
The inference is absolutely baatil since it is in absolute denial of Nusoos which confirm the creation of Hawwaa (Alayhas salaam) from the Left Rib of Aadam (Alayhis salaam). Aql has no licence to operate in the domain of Wahi substantiated by Naql (Reliable and authentic narration).
If Allah Ta’ala had willed, He could have created Aadam (Alayhis salaam) from Noor which is the primordial matter from which the Malaaikah were created. It is unintelligent and stupid to logically argue on the basis of the Qudrat of Allah Azza Wa Jal that there is no benefit in having created Aadam (Alayhis salaam) from sand in view of the fact that He has the power to create from Noor. This type of logic which conflicts with Nass is satanic.
Allah Ta’ala says in the Qur’aan Majeed:
“He created from it (the nafs of Aadam) its (his) wife. And He (Allah) spread (created) from the two numerous men (of mankind).”
(Surah Nisaa’, Aayat 1)
Bukhaari and Muslim narrated from Ibn Umar (Radhiyallahu anhu) that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Treat women kindly, for verily they were created from a Rib…” This Hadith is narrated by innumerable Muhadditheen and Authorities of the Shariah. They did not accord this narration a metaphorical interpretation as is proffered in the corrupt opposite view.
The claim that the ‘Rib’ refers to the temperament of women is baseless. There is no daleel for divergence from the literal meaning as understood by all Authorities of the Shariah since the very inception of Islam.
Allah Ta’ala says also in the Qur’aan Majeed:
“O People! Fear your Rabb Who has created you from a single nafs (Aadam), and from it
did He create its (his) wife.”
(A-Nisaa’, Aayat 1)
All the Mufassireen and other Authorities state categorically in the tafseer of this Aayat that it means that Hawaa (Alayhas salaam) was created from the Rib of Aadam (Alayhis salaam).
There is no paucity of narrational evidence for the view of Hawwaa (Alayhas salaam) having been created from the Left Rib of Aadam (Alayhas salaam). However, it is superfluous to fill many pages with narrational evidence for the same averment, namely, Hadhrat Hawwaa (Alayhas salaam) was created from the Left Rib of Hadhrat Aadam (Alayhis salaam).
Question
Also, regarding Hakeemul Ummat’s (Rahmatullah Alayh) labelling of ‘’Alayhas Salaam’’ – Mufti Palanpuri states that this is only for Ambiyaa, therefore, females cannot be given this label as they are not from amongst the Ambiyaa.
Answer
The venerable Mufti Sahib had no daleel for restricting this dua for the Ambiyaa. Furthermore, mentioning this Dua for the pious and noble Ladies of Islam is not confined to Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (Rahmatullah alayh). He did not innovate it. The Akaabir and Authorities of the Shariah state this Dua of the noble Ladies such as Hadhrat Hawaa, Hadhrat Maryam and many other noble Ladies of Islam.
