KUFFAAR STYLE PROTESTS, DEMONSTRATIONS, WALKS, ETC. ARE HARAAM
Hadhrat Maulana Asharf Ali Thanvi (Rahmatullah alayh)
Mr.Zubair Bhayat of Darush Shaitaan had blatantly perpetrated the lie that according to Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (Rahmatullah alayh), ‘these’ protests and stupid marches are ‘mubah’. Bhayat even had the audacity to claim that this mubah view is in Ifaadatul Yaumiyah which is a kitaab of the Malfoothaat of Hadhrat Thanvi. The following extracts pertaining to the kuffaar style protests are from Ifaadatul Yaumiyah which Mufti Taqi has included in his book, Hakeemul Ummat Ke Siyaasi Afkaar (The Political Views of Hakeemul Ummat).
Commenting on the political demonstrations, protests and the like, Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (Rahmatullah alayh) said:
“…In these (demonstrations) are the same evils as mentioned above. Further, if non-participation in these protest demonstrations leads to personal injury, then this sin is worse than damage caused to property, and this is in negation of the demand of Islam.
Furthermore, coercing others to participate in these protests is in conflict with the principle of freedom of these jaabireen (oppressors – the protesters). What is the meaning of struggling for freedom when they seek to snatch away the freedom of others (who refuse to participate)?”
Commenting on this Malfooth of Hadhrat Thanvi, Mufti Taqi says: “The summary of this treatise (of Hadhrat Thanvi) is that the current method of protest is in conflict with the Shariah, and not permissible.”
In his Kitaab, Hadhrat Thanvi (Rahmatullah alayh) states:
“When a method is in conflict with the methods of the Shariah, it will be decreed to be prohibited. Moreover when it is a futile or harmful act there can then be no doubt in its hurmat (being haraam)…
In these protests, time is squandered, wealth is squandered, people are put to hardship and Salaat is destroyed. These are blatant acts of corruption. How can these ever be permissible? (Hadhrat Thanvi had expressed the Shariah’s stance regarding the demonstrations prevailing in his time. At that time, even in the Hindu kuffaar demonstrations, females did not participate. It was at that time unthinkable for even Hindu women to prance in the street like baboons as so-called ‘muslim’ women are doing today.)
The truth (Haqq) cannot be aided with these acts. Unlawful acts do not become permissible with a good intention.”
Further, elaborating on these kuffaar methods of protest, demonstrations and the like, Hadhrat Thanvi said:
“There are only two Aqli (rational) possibilities: Power to fight or lack of power. What is the meaning of being arrested? (This referred to being arrested for passive resistance which was the method of the Ghandi Hindus). If there is power, then fight. If power to fight is lacking, then adopt Sabr. Besides these two options, there is no third option (for Muslims).
At this time the greatest reason for failure (and defeat) is that the Ummah has no Imaam (to lead them. The reference is to an Ameer to whom Muslims are subservient). If Muslims had an Imaam, then with his command they would be able to come out into the field (of Jihad). Then even if they lose their lives (become Shaheed) it matters not. But losing life while sitting (like ducks) is not insaaniyat.”
(Comment: “while sitting”: In the context of his advice, Hadhrat Thanvi here refers to Ghandi’s passive resistance methodology of getting whipped, arrested and killed without standing up, fighting and getting martyred.)
Continuing his naseehat, Hadhrat Thanvi says:
“During the Khairul Quroon (the first three eras of Islam), there were only two options, namely, if Muslims have the power, then the way is Muqaabalah (confrontation- fighting, Jihad). In the absence of power, the only option is Sabr (i.e. repentance, reformation and Dua).
Besides these two methods, all other ways are baseless and false. (All other methods have no validity and no permissibility in the Shariah). Hence there is no goodness and no barakat in these other methods (e.g. demonstrations, protests and the like).
Assuming that ostensibly Muslims achieve some success by adopting these methods (of the kuffar), then there is no pleasure in such success which is acquired in conflict with the Pleasure of Allah Ta’ala and Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Furthermore, there is no excellence in mundane (worldly) success, because such success is acquired by even the kuffaar.
True success of Muslims is the Pleasure of Allah even if it means slavery for Muslims. (The Pleasure of Allah Ta’ala is of paramount importance, and this is attainable only by following the Shariah and adopting the Sunnah). Assuming that Muslims gain political power in conflict with the Pleasure of Allah Ta’ala, then what is the difference between the reign of Fir’oun and your reign (acquired in haraam ways)?
The only concern should be to cultivate the Pleasure of Allah Ta’ala. Solidify the Bond with Him in the proper manner (i.e. in ways permitted by the Shariah). Be strict regarding the ahkaam of Islam. You (O Muslims!) have already experienced the consequences of subservience to these idols (i.e. kuffaar leaders and their methods). Now, bow your heads to Allah Ta’ala and supplicate to Him for your needs. Then you will see the results.” End of Hadhrat Thanvi’s Naseehat)

Supplicating to Him, does not refer merely to recitation of Qunoot, Wazeefahs and Duas unaccompanied by moral reformation and spiritual elevation. The need is to follow the methods and ways of the Sahaabah. There will never be success, victory and honour for Muslims as long as they remain the bootlickers of the kuffaar. The need is to remedy the diseases which are devouring our Imaan.
The imperative need is to shun all ways and practices alien to Islam, and to revert to the unadulterated Sunnah, both zaahiri and baatini. Both the external and internal dimensions of Islam have to be cultivated. In brief it is absolutely necessary to become as ‘mad’ as the Sahaabah. Only then will the Nusrat of Allah Ta’ala be at hand.
Allah Ta’ala says in the Qur’aan Majeed:
“O People of Imaan! If you follow the kuffaar, they will cause you to turn on your heels (i.e. you will become murtadd). Then you will become the losers.”
Yes, ‘the losers’ as we are today, and as we shall be in Qiyaamah if we persist in the methodology of bootlicking.
